They grow 'em crazy up there in Alaska . . .
First on the radar for the general public this fall: Sarah Palin and her severely stunted brainpower. Next came Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, who was just convicted on 7 counts of felony graft (in short). Now we hear from their sole representative to the House, Don Young, in reaction to Stevens' conviction:
"'I can remember Richard Nixon, you know, his years of service, what he’s done, and everybody [was] ridiculing him, and he ended up being the greatest president in the history of our century. ... The Senator will be re-elected. He will appeal it. When he does go, he will win it because there’s no way this is a jury of his peers,'Young told the Anchorage Daily News."
The "greatest president in the history of our century" was Richard Nixon? And this comparison is meant to be encouraging to Stevens?
Not needing mention:
All 3 are Republicans.
Worth mentioning:
Both Stevens and Young are trailing--in Young's case, quite badly--in their respective polls to Democratic challengers.
It is to laugh.

If Obama wins Alaska, I will literally piss myself laughing. It could happen, though. If only Gore had won Tennessee...
In the last 14 elections over 56 years, only 3 Dems have won Tennessee in the Presidential race, and only 2 (Carter and Clinton) were in close contests (LBJ was the other). That's a pretty steep hill to climb for any Democrat, even for a native son. It won't happen this year, either, to make it 3 out of the last 15.
Obama is infintiely closer to taking Alaska . . .
Say what you will about Nixon, but you have to admit, he beats Bush.
Oh, absolutely, but that's setting the bar pretty darn low, wouldn't you agree? The fact that you could even think to say that shows how far we've fallen . . .
It does blow my mind that a Republican't (sic) would rank Nixon above Reagan. Seriously.
Or Eisenhower.
Yeah, I'm thinking that Young just blanked on Reagan in his hierarchy of idiocy. Ike, otoh, is anathema to modern Republicans, so that doesn't surprise me.
